Child and Youth Policy in Germany - Structures and Institutions

© moodboard - Fotolia.comChild and youth services in the Federal Republic of Germany form a diversified system that wants to improve the conditions of growing up and to further the participation of children and young people. It is based upon the pluralistic and cooperative team play by the statutory and voluntary sectors. In child and youth services, the actors pursue the aim to further the young people’s development to persons who act on their own responsibility and who are able to live in a community. They want to help to maintain or create positive living conditions for children and young people and their families.

In the field of child and youth policy, the statutory bodies act jointly in cooperative teamwork with the voluntary organisations on federal, Land and local level. This menu item particularly presents the responsibilities of the respective Federal Ministries in the field of youth policy and the part of their policy which is relevant to young people. While doing so, it focuses on the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth (BMFSFJ). In addition, the database “Child and Youth Services, Child and Youth Policy in Germany” offers the possibility to search thematically for associations and institutions which act nation-wide in this field.
